Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic Website Design That Can Survive Scrutiny.

Website design for UK clinics offering surgical procedures such as breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, facelifts and body contouring. This is a different sector to non-surgical aesthetics: procedures happen under anaesthesia, facilities are usually CQC-registered, and the decision a patient is making carries real medical risk. The website has to help patients make that decision properly, not rush them into it.

A cosmetic surgery patient journey in four stages, from researching the procedure to meeting the surgeon, a cooling-off period and surgery with aftercare, with checks for a linked GMC register entry, the CQC rating widget and no urgency offers
OVERVIEW

A Serious Medical Decision, Not A Retail One.

Patients researching cosmetic surgery are usually further along in their decision than a typical retail customer, but the questions they still need answered are unglamorous: is this surgeon actually qualified for this procedure, what happens if something goes wrong, and am I being given time to think or being pushed towards a deposit.

I design cosmetic surgery websites around the consultation and the cooling-off period, not the before-and-after gallery. That approach follows the Keogh Review's findings on the sector, keeps advertising inside the ASA and CAP Code, and gives patients the information a serious decision actually needs.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Built For Surgical Clinics.

Surgeon Credentials Verified

Each surgeon's specialty, GMC Specialist Register entry and Royal College of Surgeons Cosmetic Surgery Board Certification (where held) shown and linked, so a patient can check rather than take a claim on trust.

CQC Registration Displayed

The facility's CQC registration and current rating shown using the official widget, since surgical procedures carried out under anaesthesia are a CQC-regulated activity.

Two-Stage Consultation Journey

An initial consultation followed by a clear cooling-off period before any deposit is taken, with no same-visit pressure to book, in line with the Keogh Review's recommendations for the sector.

Representative Before-And-After Galleries

Real, consented images that show a typical range of outcomes rather than exceptional results, captioned with what was done.

Risk & Complication Pages

Honest information on recognised risks, revision policy and what support is available if a complication occurs, alongside the benefits.

Responsible Finance Information

Where finance or credit is offered, it's explained after suitability is confirmed in consultation, not used to push a decision before the medical facts are settled.

Implant Registry & Consent Pages

Clear information on mandatory implant registry reporting where it applies, and what the written consent process actually covers.

PATIENT JOURNEY

From Research To Recovery In Four Stages.

01
Research the procedure

A dedicated page for each procedure covering what it involves, who it suits, realistic outcomes and recognised risks, written to inform rather than sell.

02
Meet the surgeon

Credentials checked against the GMC Specialist Register and any Royal College certification, before a consultation is booked.

03
Cooling-off period

A written quote and a clear period to think it over, with no pressure to pay a deposit at the consultation itself.

04
Surgery and aftercare

What happens on the day, the recovery timeline, and how to reach the clinic if a concern comes up afterwards.

WORDING

What The Site Avoids, And What It Says Instead.

Examples of the patterns I plan copy around. Your medical director or compliance adviser has the final say on wording.

What to avoid What to say instead
"Safe", "risk-free" or "no complications" Balanced information on recognised risks and what happens if a complication occurs
Countdown offers or discounts on surgery Fixed, transparent pricing with no artificial urgency
"World-leading" or "leading" without evidence Named credentials and a verifiable specialism the surgeon can support
Financing pushed before suitability is confirmed Consultation and suitability first, financing explained afterwards
Only exceptional before-and-after results shown A representative range of real, consented outcomes

The Rules The Website Is Built Around

  • Surgeon qualifications and titles. The ASA interprets terms like "qualified", "experienced", "leading" and "consultant" strictly: "qualified" generally requires GMC Specialist Register entry (or pre-2002 equivalent training) in the relevant specialty, "experienced" points to around six years in the surgical specialty, "leading" needs evidence the surgeon is genuinely near the top of their field, and "consultant" should mean an actual NHS consultant post, not a marketing title. I only use terms the surgeon's credentials actually support.
  • CQC registration. Facilities carrying out surgical procedures under anaesthesia are a CQC-regulated activity and must be registered; where the facility has a current CQC rating, it should be displayed, ideally using CQC's own widget so it stays current.
  • Royal College certification. The Royal College of Surgeons' Cosmetic Surgery Board Certification is a voluntary scheme. I state plainly whether a surgeon holds it rather than implying it is a mandatory qualification.
  • Under-18s. Since November 2021, cosmetic intervention advertising cannot be targeted at under-18s, in placement and scheduling as well as content.
  • Discounts and urgency. Time-limited offers or discounts on surgery risk trivialising a serious medical decision under the CAP Code; the ASA has specifically flagged Black Friday-style surgery promotions as a concern.
  • Testimonials and before-and-after images. These need to be genuinely representative rather than exceptional, backed by patient consent, and any endorsement needs to be capable of substantiation.
  • Fee transparency. As with Harley Street consultants, the CMA's Private Healthcare Market Investigation Order requires consultants seeing private patients to submit fee data to PHIN; the pricing shown on the website should be consistent with it.

These are short summaries I plan the site around, not the full rules, and this is not legal or regulatory advice. Cosmetic surgery advertising and patient safety requirements are actively under review by Parliament and the professional bodies, so check the current ASA, GMC, CQC and Royal College guidance, and have your medical director or compliance adviser approve all wording before it goes live.

STRAIGHT ANSWER

I haven't built a website for a cosmetic surgery clinic before, and I won't claim otherwise. What I bring is adjacent and real: at GSK Consumer Healthcare I owned digital insights and analytics across 15+ brand websites, and I've since built the regulated Harley Street-style compliance thinking into the aesthetics and Harley Street clinic pages on this site. The discipline is the same across all of them: when a decision is high-value, high-risk and carefully researched, clarity and verifiable credentials are what earn the enquiry, not the gallery.

SEARCH VISIBILITY

Cosmetic Surgery SEO

Patients researching surgery typically look far beyond one clinic's own site: surgeon review platforms, forums, and increasingly AI answers summarising "best rhinoplasty surgeon London" style queries. A procedure page written in plain, careful language, with named and verifiable credentials, is what both search engines and AI tools tend to draw on when deciding which clinic to show as trustworthy.

Because advertising this sector is tightly restricted (no targeting under-18s, no urgency-based promotion, careful limits on testimonials), organic search, a complete Google Business Profile and genuine reviews carry more of the weight than paid campaigns. Procedure pages, schema and internal linking are built with that in mind, and I treat AI search visibility as part of the same foundation rather than an add-on.

Patients often travel for surgery, so national reach matters as much as local. If your clinic also offers non-surgical treatments, aesthetics clinic websites covers how I handle that side separately, since the advertising rules differ.

FAQs

Cosmetic surgery website questions.

A Starter website for a single surgeon or small clinic costs from £1,999, fully delivered: custom design, procedure pages, CQC and credential displays, core patient journeys mapped, on-page SEO and AIO readiness, and GA4 analytics implementation, all built, launched and verified rather than handed over as a template. Multi-surgeon groups and hospital-based practices get a fixed written quote after a free discovery call.

Only with evidence behind it. The ASA reads these terms strictly, so I use them only where the surgeon's actual credentials and experience support the claim, and link to the GMC Specialist Register wherever possible.

The booking journey is built around one. The Keogh Review's findings on the sector recommend against pressuring patients into a same-visit deposit, and the site reflects that with a written-quote-then-think-it-over flow rather than an instant checkout.

If your facility is CQC-registered and rated, yes, and I use CQC's own widget so it always shows the current status rather than a screenshot that goes stale.

Generally best avoided. The ASA has specifically raised concerns about discount and urgency-based promotion of surgery, since it can trivialise a decision that should be made without time pressure.

They need to be real, consented and representative of typical outcomes rather than the most dramatic results, captioned honestly with what was done.
